Door of Perception Psychedelic Graffiti Art

This is started as a door I was drawing graffiti onto, and evolved in a circular explosion of bits and pieces all coming out the door. It basically morphed into an attempt to express what happens in an hallucinogenic eruption of colors and ideas and shapes when a dimensional door is opened.

Here is a playful explication for the door:

The door was bright and colorful, incongruous in juxtaposition with the decay around, and covered in graffiti art that was so beautifully rendered, it seemed to shift and move in the light. It had been discovered by a young boy, hidden in an alleyway between two long-abandoned buildings.

He had been first struck by how the door was embedded in a lonely, crumbling wall, and yet the door seemed relatively new. Driven by youthful exuberance and an innate sense of curiosity, he pushed hard until the door opened a crack, and peered playfully through, using his hyper-active imagination to envision what might once have been on the other side. His eyes grew enormous. What he actually saw on the other side was beyond anything he could have imagined. It was a dimension unlike our own, filled with strange and indescribable things.

Overcome with excitement and wonder, and fueled by the intrepid foolishness of youth, our protagonist stepped through, leaving the door slightly ajar behind him. He spent what seemed like hours exploring the new world, marveling at the sights and sounds, so alien and exotic. It was a magical, mind-warping experience to be sure, but to our lad, it was no more than a carnival ride, such was his enthusiasm for adventure.

Meanwhile, the open door had begun to allow objects from the other dimension to bleed through, appearing in our world in fairly close proximity. The authorities were quickly alerted to the strange occurrences and things appearing around the door, and immediately sealed off the area. Scientists were brought in to study the phenomenon, but they could not explain how or why it was happening. No one was allowed to touch it or approach it.

As time passed, the door's effect grew stronger. Ever more gathering scientists were positively abuzz with excitement. It was a major event. Increasing numbers of  people were drawn to it, compelled to see what came from the other side. The government issued a warning that the bleeding of objects from the other dimension could have catastrophic consequences and people must stay away.

As is the way of humans, despite these warnings, a group of, let's call them thrill-seekers, decided to rush through the barricades, open the door and step through; no concern for the consequences. With the door opened more fully, the bleeding rapidly intensified, and larger objects from the other dimension started appearing everywhere. Bizarre creatures, plants, and objects that could not even be classified, appeared farther and farther away. People began to panic. But amidst the sudden uproarious chaos, the boy stepped back through the door and casually closed it behind him. As he did, everything from the other dimension simply vanished, as though never there.

The area was permanently sealed off from the public and a new building erected around it. We never found out if the group that went through ever returned, but it seems that time works differently there, so maybe they will show up one day. The boy refused to tell his story, but promises that one day he would.
